About Scrap Jammies
Scrap Jammies is an independent guide to home file cabinets. We help you choose one that fits your room, your papers and the way you like to keep them.
Our readers are homeowners, retirees and people who run a small business from a spare room. Most want tax papers, insurance policies and household records off the kitchen table and in one place.
What we cover
We cover vertical, lateral and rolling file cabinets, models with locks, units that hold a printer and cabinets that look like regular furniture. We also explain letter and legal sizes and how many drawers you need.
Owners have questions after the cabinet arrives, too. So we write about setting one up, moving it, anchoring it, fixing a lock or a sticky drawer, and cleaning or painting an old metal cabinet.
How we work
We read each cabinet's specs, measurements and maker details. Then we look at what owners often say about assembly, drawer slides, locks and how well the cabinet holds up.
From there we write plain guides and side-by-side comparisons. Our How we research page explains each step.
What we are not
We don't make or sell file cabinets, and no brand pays to be ranked here. Scrap Jammies isn't connected to any cabinet maker or store.
We don't claim to have tested the cabinets we write about. Every pick comes with the reasons behind it, drawn from specs, features and owner feedback.
We don't give legal or tax advice about which papers to keep or for how long. For that, check with the IRS or a professional you trust.
How the site earns money
Some links go to stores like Amazon. If you buy through one, we may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you.
That never decides which cabinet we pick. Our affiliate disclosure explains the details.
